Geo Cake

I have never, ever, come across such a fantastic geo cake as this! We had a craft festival at work today and two of the guys worked through the night, so the rumour goes, to create this work of art. I have their permission to blog this so all credit (and copyright!) to Simon and George! Long may your cake baking fame live.

I have two, hopefully lucid, observations:

1. Planet Earth is under serious attack by giant flying saucers with mysterious metal pole vaults - what is the geomatics world doing about this?

2. This cake would be banned in the United States, which is in entire denial regarding global warming. Anyone can see from the accuracy of this confection that Antarctica has already totally melted on to the saucer (mother ship??) The Northwest passage looks inviting though, got to say.

Perhaps I should have stated that this is not to scale nor a true and accurate representation of the earth.... ;-)

Yes it is! It is an oblate spheroid (correct)and it has a lumpy geoidal look with highs at the green bits and lows at the blue bits, just like my old RNHS handout says it was (correct again). Maybe even the core is still molten...

Trust me, this is exactly how the astronauts see it. Absolutely.

Rest assured the core is solid rice krispes!
